The Nivaagaard Collection

Set in a wonderful rhododendron park overlooking Øresund and protected salt marshes, the museum takes visitors on a journey through changing exhibitions and a collection of 500 years of world art – from Italian Renaissance, Dutch Baroque and 19th century Danish.

The Nivaagaard Collection organises more than 300 events a year related to the art and nature around the museum – from lectures and concerts to guided tours, croquis and drawing lessons, family events, sing-alongs and communal dining, and walks by the park and Nivå Bay.

Throughout the year there are special activities and worksheets for children, who are always welcome to explore the art at the museum. In the park behind the museum is the ‘Reserve for endangered words’ with around 100 words that are about to leave our language, as well as new emerging words collected by young people. The reserve invites new discoveries of language and new conversations between generations.

The nature around the museum offers great walks through the park to the salt meadows and harbour or past the Nivaagaard Brickworks Ring Kiln, the river valley and the clay pits. The surroundings have always had a special significance for the museum, which likes to bring nature into the museum – in special exhibitions, events and in the encounter with the landscape paintings in the collection.

For children and families

There are always worksheets to solve for each exhibition and the museum’s collection, and in the Garden Foyer there is a children’s table with drawing tools and books. Museum events can be combined with a visit to the museum’s galleries, where the art collection with significant works from the Italian Renaissance, including Bellini and Anguissola, Dutch Baroque such as Rembrandt and Danish 19th century art such as Eckersberg and Marstrand, speak to holidays and traditions.

Café Nivaagaard

The café offers delicious lunch dishes, homemade cakes and drinks, as well as the evening meal Tuesday – Friday when the museum is open in the evening.
