Lützhøft’s Farm Shop

Right in the heart of Roskilde, you can step back 100 years in time when you walk through the door of Lützhøfts Købmandsgård, which has been part of the town’s commercial life since 1892.

A time capsule on Ringstedgade
The coffee grinder whirs, the doorbell rings, and the scent of spices fills the shop. Lützhøfts Købmandsgård is a living museum where history isn’t just something to be seen, but something to be felt, heard, smelled and tasted. Explore the range of sugar loaves, rock sugar, hand-tied brushes and other historical goods, and have them wrapped in cones and paper, just as they used to be.

Behind the counter
At Lützhøfts Købmandsgård, you’re more than welcome to step behind the counter and take a look inside the grocer’s office and back room. The old scales and the historic cash register are still in use, and the vivid stories told by the volunteer grocers make it easy to imagine everyday life in a grocery shop 100 years ago.

A work of craftsmanship

On the first floor is the Crafts Museum, which houses a large collection of historical tools used by carpenters, joiners, woodturners, clog-makers and woodcarvers, amongst others. Here, you can follow the journey of the wood from the forest to the finished product and gain an insight into the crafts that were once a natural part of everyday life.
