Exhibitions

Frederiksborg is today the National History Museum and National Portrait Gallery. In front of iconic history paintings and Denmark’s wildest portrait collection, you come face to face with the people who have shaped Denmark’s history from the 1400s to the present day. Changing special exhibitions put the museum’s collection and Denmark’s history into perspective.

The church

Royal weddings and the anointing of absolute kings—Frederiksborg Castle Church stands as a testament to Denmark’s history. The church also serves as the Chapel of the Royal Danish Orders of Chivalry, with the coats of arms of the Elephant Knights and Grand Cross Knights of the Order of the Dannebrog adorning its walls. This magnificent church also functions as the parish church and is included in the museum visit.

Curious kids

Frederiksborg is full of quirky details and stories for curious souls of all ages. During the holidays, there are extra activities for children.

Admission is free for everyone under 18 years.

Dine at Rabarbergaarden

Visit the museum’s critically acclaimed farm-to-table restaurant Rabarbergaarden Slottet, where local produce from Kongernes Nordsjælland is turned into unique gastronomic experiences.

The gardens

Frederiksborg is located on three islands in the Castle Lake and is surrounded by two large gardens: the Baroque garden from the 1720s, with tight lines, shaped trees and royal monograms, and the romantic landscape garden with free-growing forest, winding streams and the idyllic Badstueslot from 1580. The Little Ferry sails on the castle lake throughout the summer.
